THE FACULTY OF ORTHODOX THEOLOGY

The Faculty of Orthodox Theology was founded in 1990, after the fall of the atheistic totalitarian regime in Romania. It is co-founder of  „1 Decembrie 1918” University of Alba Iulia, together with the Faculty of History and Philology. 

At first there was just one academic programme, namely Social Theology and subsequently the following specializations were established: Pastoral Theology (1995), Theology and Language Teacher Education (1996), Theology and Language Teacher Education (2003), History and Theology (2003).

After the university education reform initiated in 2005 (while reduced the number of specialized academic requirements under the Declaration of Bologna), the 5 theological departments were converted into 3.

PUBLICATIONS:

The official journal of the  Faculty of Theology is called „Altarul Reîntregirii” (”The Shrine of Reunification”) and is issued every four months. For a number of years, this journal appeared under the name of „Credinţa Ortodoxă”       (”The Orthodox Faith”).

RESEARCH STRUCTURES

THE ”SAINT SERGE” RESEARCH CENTRE was established as a result of the partnership between the Faculty of Orthodox Theology and the Orthodox Theology Institute ”Saint Serge”, Paris. The center carries out research in the field of Theology and related disciplines. 

THE INTER-RELIGIOUS AND CHRISTIAN PSYCHO-PEDAGOGY RESEARCH CENTRE belongs to the Faculty of Orthodox Theology and carries out research in the field of Theology and collateral disciplines, fostering at the same time a dialogue of different religions and confessions. Furthermore, the Centre answers the need for Christian education and spiritual guidance of the Romanian contemporary society, attempting in the first place to restore participation in the community by reviving the clear pedagogical and therapeutic character of the ecclesiastic work, both in its cultic and cultural (Samaritan) dimension.

Each year, the Faculty of Orthodox Theology organizes an International Symposium, with researchers, teachers and specialists from various universities from Romania and from abroad.
